I recall hearing about Copy City in the news, though I didn’t follow the developments closely. I found the podcast both informative and engaging. The story definitely favored the side of the protestors, but the producers stated they attempted to include perspectives from government officials and law enforcement, but those parties declined to participate. While it appears that most of the forest protesters were engaged in peaceful demonstration, a minority escalated tensions by engaging in destructive acts. The decision to classify protesters as domestic terrorists and pursue RICO charges is deeply troubling and sets a dangerous legal precedent. If this approach becomes normalized, it raises serious concerns about the future of First Amendment protections.
