I disagree. Stop it! Taco Bell is NOT Mexican food. It is “Frankin-food” and not even a good wanna-be. I’m not Mexican but I began my discovery of Mexican food at six years old at my friend’s mom’s kitchen table. Mrs. Pecheco gave me homemade tacos, frijoles, arroz rojo. That began my love affair with this cuisine. I don’t care for Tex-Mex. I don’t know what that is!? I am partial to “corn” tortillas. My preference is any of the food south of the border or that which I first ate in Los Angeles decades ago.

I was born in Philly, but grew up in south Jersey. I have family on both sides of the Delaware River. I was 25 at the time and remember watching the news outraged but not surprised. It was horrifying wicked and cruel. Thank you for this episode - excellent reporting very well done.
Great topics, love the hosts

NPR’s Code Switch is one of my core podcasts - I tune in regularly to learn about current affairs, politics, society, culture, and history. It’s thoughtful, smart, and often funny. I love the wide variety of topics it covers, from the co-opting of MLK Jr to what it’s like to find community while learning to play the banjo. While some episodes focus on race and racism as the central core of the story, many simply tackle a topic from the lens of people of color, which gives me a deeper understanding as well as insights I wouldn’t have had from my own lived experience as a white person.
